COURSE AIM:
An opportunity for learners to gain skills that would enable
them to manage life-threatening situations. The course covers
training identified by the Health & Safety Executive as being
required by the appointed person in the workplace.
COURSE SUMMARY:
This course leads to a Certificate of Competence in Emergency
First Aid. It is a useful course for the community,
home, voluntary workers or for the appointed first aider in
the workplace.
The
course covers:
Approaching the scene of an accident or illness
Assessment and management an unconscious casualty
Basic
life support
Management of choking
Management of wounds and bleeding
Recognition and management of a heart attack
Recognition and treatment of shock
Dealing with asthma
Working with other first aiders
Leading the team in an emergency
First
aid in the workplace, including recommended contents
of first aid boxes
An opportunity to discuss other relevant first aid

Pen
and paper. It is advisable to wear trousers.
Bring
sandwiches and a drink.
There are no canteen facilities available on site. A
coin-operated hot drinks machine is available.

Successful students will receive a Certificate of Competence
in Emergency First Aid

There is ongoing
assessment by the tutor. Students will be required to
demonstrate a selection of skills competently at the end of
the course.
