E-type Touch Typing Learning Programme

(Last Updated: 20/12/2007)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Did you know that a typical computer user spends an average of 20 hours per week on a pc and could save around half of that time if they could touch type?

e-Type

We now have a learning programme "e-type" which will provide you with the skills you need to be able to type quickly and accurately. It consists of computer based training, online testing and certification. You will be guided through a course of 10 lessons, each of which builds on the skills learned in the previous lesson(s).

As not everyone needs to be able to touch type at the same speed, the tests allow for differing achievements to be recognised, however the accuracy rate of 98% is the same for each award. There are three awards which are:

E-type is regulated by the British Computer Society (BCS), the same organisation that regulates ECDL in the UK.

How does it work?

You will be given a unique registration number and access to your individual training programme, e-type.  The programme will help you to build on your strengths and address weaknesses so that regardless of the level or style of your previous keyboard experience, you will become an accomplished touch typist able to type with all fingers and without looking at the keyboard!  A full user guide will be provided.

Study time varies from person to person but the recommended approach is to work for around half an hour a day over 10-20 days or more.

Tests

The duration of the test is 5 minutes with time beforehand for a warm up.  The tests are marked electronically so you will be presented with your result on screen immediately after the test.  The three grades are as above and are marked on both speed and accuracy.   The Tests are invigilated.

You can have three attempts at the test to achieve the highest WPM, but if you reach Gold on your first attempt you do not need to sit anymore tests.   The BCS will issue a pass certificate at each grade.

Cost

£55 – this includes: enrolment, all learning material & 3 tests.
