RESCUE AWARD FOR SWIMMING TEACHERS AND COACHES

COURSE
SUMMARY:
This course is designed to meet the training needs of the
Swimming Teacher or Coach delivering a programmed swimming
session. It leads to a Nationally Recognised
Qualification which is endorsed by the Amateur Swimming
Association, the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management
and the Institute of Teachers and Coaches.
The Award is also recognised in "Managing Health and
Safety in Swimming Pools" as being appropriate for those
supervising swimming pool programmed activities.
The course includes:
- Pool
Safety Operating procedures

- Use of
pool rescue equipment
|
- Class
management and safety
|
|
- Risk
assessment and pool hazards
|
- Recovery
and and rescue of the unconscious casualty
|
|
|
|

Awareness of suspected spinal cord injury
|
- Entering
and leaving the water safely
|
- Baby
life support (optional)
|
|
- Adult
and child life support
|
|
WHAT
ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
No
previous experience required.
Students must be over 16 years of age.
Students with physical or learning difficulties may not able
to reach the standard demanded by the examiner and will be
advised on an individual basis.
Students must be able to swim a minimum of 20 metres on
their front and 20 metres on their back.. They should also be
able to dive to the deepest part of the pool (1.8m at the
Wordsley School)

CAN
I OBTAIN A QUALIFICATION?
RLSS National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and
Coaches.
HOW
ARE THE CANDIDATES ASSESSED FOR A QUALIFICATION?
Practical and Theory Test by an
independent assessor at the end of the course.
HOW LONG DOES THE COURSE LAST?
2 days. It
is essential that students attend both days..
